Introduction #5: Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry (HUAF)

The University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University formerly known as the University of Agriculture No.II, belonged to the Ministry of Agriculture, was founded in August 14th, 1967. The University has effectively cooperated in training, scientific research, and technology transfer with more than 35 major international organizations, including large partners and organizations such as the WB, ADB, WWF.

General Information


The University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University has the mission to train human resources in high quality of science and technology. In addition, it specializes in scientific research and the technology to transfer and meet the needs of agriculture and rural development for the central, highland regions and for the whole country in accordance with regional and global integration.

The University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University formerly known as the University of Agriculture No.II, belonged to the Ministry of Agriculture, was founded in August 14th, 1967, in Ha Bac Province (now Bac Giang province ). In 1983, the University moved to Hue City and renamed as the University of Agriculture No.2, Hue University. Hue University of Agriculture No.II was renamed into the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University would eventually become a member of Hue University.

International cooperation is one of the HUAF’s traditional strengths. It has effectively cooperated in training, scientific research, and technology transfer with more than 35 major international organizations, including large partners and organizations such as the WB, ADB, WWF ... The HUAF has built trust and become a reliable place for international friends to cooperate in the fields of agriculture, forestry, rural development, environmental protection and climate change, food security and safety, and rural social issues.

The University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University has a strong team of scientists, including 03 professors, 37 associate professors, 105 doctors who mostly graduated PhD from international universities. In addition, HUAF has 06 strong research teams recognized by Hue University in the fields of environment and quality of products, plants protection, organic agriculture in condition of climate change, forestry development and herbiotic trees, environmental incidents and resistant capacity, livelihoods and sustainable development.
University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University has 7 specialized faculties, all of which have professional laboratories with the capability to meet the needs of scientific research for teams of scientists. Moreover,  the HUAF connects with other specialized laboratories in Hue University, in Vietnam and various universities in the world such as Kyoto University, Okayama University, Wageningen University, Ghent University, Gottingen University, Utrecht University and other units.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Duc

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Duc is Rector of Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry (HUAF). He has a bachelor’s degree (1998) and master’s degree (2002) in agronomy from HUAF and a DEA (diplôme d’études approfondies) (2007) in soil science from Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium. He obtained a PhD in global environmental studies in 2012 from the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, Kyoto University. His main fields of interest are soil science, agronomy, the environment and rural development.

MSc. Le Thi Thuy Hang

Ms. Le Thi Thuy Hang is a Senior Officer of Department of Science-International, Library of Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry (HUAF) and as such has experience working on EU-funded capacity building projects and either representing the HUAF as a partner in consortium or managing projects for the HUAF (ENHANCE project, REACT project and SFARM project).Ms. Hang received Master’s degree (in 2013) from the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, Kyoto University. Her research interests are mainly climate change, rural development and environmental issues.

Dr. Nguyen Quang Lich

Dr. Nguyen Quang Lich received his PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of South Australia. His expertise lies in the area of wastewater treatment and green technology. He has received grants from both private companies and public sectors to conduct researches focusing on methods for agricultural wastewater treatment and waste to energy transformations. Dr. Lich had leader of more than 10 projects conducted in wastewater treatment and management.

Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Thai Hoa

Hoang Thi Thai Hoa is a Professor in Agriculture and the current Vice Dean of Agronomy Faculty, HUAF. She received her PhD in Agricultural Science (Soil science) from the Louvain Catholic University of Belgium. His expertise lies in the area of soil fertility, plant nutrition and environment assessment. She has received grants from both private companies and public sectors to conduct researches focusing on how to make compost from waste management for plant nutrition.

Dr. Le Ngoc Phuong Quy

Dr. Le Ngoc Phuong Quy is currently a lecturer at Natural Resources and Agricultural Environment, University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University. She received her PhD in Environmental Science at Okayama University, Japan in 2018. Her research interests mainly include land governance in upland ethnic minorities, livelihood studies, and environment issues in Vietnam.

PhD candidate, Msc. Le Dinh Huy

Le Dinh Huy is a lecturer at Faculty of Land Resources and Agricultural Environment, Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry (HUAF). He received his Bachelor and Master of Crop Science from HUAF. Mr. Huy is finishing his Doctoral cources at Graduated School of Agricultue, Kyoto University, Japan. He has been involved in projects that improved land productivity by assessing the land degradation status, land suitability for crops, effectiveness of diffirent NPK fertiliser on crops, and producing organic fertilizer from waste-products and bioproducts. Currently, his main interests focus on climate change and environmental issues.

Dr. Ve Quoc Linh

Linh Ve is a lecturer at Department of Engineering and Food Technology, University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from RMIT University, Australia. His research interests have been involved in Desalination coupled with renewable energy and waste heat. In past few years, some projects in term of wastewater treatment using eco-friendly materials have been done.
